A new arts venue dedicated to immersive experiences is set to open at Gardens by the Bay in 2025. IMBA Theatre, despite its name, is not a traditional theatre but a large-scale visual arts attraction designed to showcase stunning multi-sensory exhibitions. Drawing inspiration from immersive experiences like teamLab’s Future World, Sentosa Sensoryscape, and Groundseesaw’s 360-degree art showcases, IMBA Theatre promises to be a captivating addition to Singapore’s art scene.
One of its key attractions is the Black Box, a sprawling 20,000-square-foot space featuring a 12.5-metre-high projection wall that transforms into a dynamic display of colorful animations and futuristic interactive art. Another highlight is the high-ceilinged Gallery Space, designed to host a mix of traditional and contemporary exhibitions, including paintings and large-scale installations. Visitors can also explore IMBA Theatre’s curated retail and dining options, carefully crafted to complement its immersive and creative atmosphere.
IMBA Theatre is slated to open in December 2025 with The Botero Show, a major exhibition celebrating the works of Colombian artist Fernando Botero, known for his distinctive voluminous sculptures and paintings. Additional showcases will feature Singaporean mural artist Yip Yew Chong and a special segment on the Nanyang art style. As a prelude to its launch, a commissioned floor art piece by Korean-American artist Romon Kimin Yang (Rostarr) will be partially visible even after the venue is fully constructed, offering visitors a hidden artistic detail to discover.
