Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) has unveiled BeyondReality Studio, a cutting-edge facility designed to immerse students in the world of virtual production. This 2,500-square-foot studio integrates LED volume walls, motion capture technology, and a curved green screen cyclorama, providing students with hands-on experience in CGI, augmented reality (AR), and real-time 3D rendering. The studio supports courses in animation, games, visual effects, and media production, ensuring NYP students gain practical skills in one of the fastest-growing fields in entertainment and technology.
Virtual production is transforming the media landscape, combining traditional filmmaking techniques with advanced digital tools like Unreal Engine, camera tracking systems, and generative AI. Industry leaders such as Disney, Epic Games, and Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) have embraced these technologies, with the global virtual production market projected to reach US$10.07 billion by 2032. The Asia-Pacific region, particularly China, Japan, and South Korea, is also experiencing rapid growth, driven by rising investments in the entertainment industry.
BeyondReality Studio will benefit up to 600 students annually, with applications extending beyond NYP’s School of Design and Media to disciplines like mass media management and hospitality. Adult learners in media-related courses and creative enterprises can also leverage the facility for training and collaboration. By investing in this state-of-the-art studio, NYP reinforces its commitment to preparing the next generation of media professionals for the evolving demands of the entertainment and gaming industries.
