Honey and Bean is a charming little café tucked within Whampoa, a neighbourhood more commonly associated with its bustling market and traditional hawker fare than with modern coffee spots. Amidst ageing HDB blocks and a slower, local pace of life, Honey and Bean offers a lighthearted and unexpected twist. The café focuses on honey-based beverages and smiley-faced egglettes, bringing playful touches to a no-frills menu. Step inside and the space is small but welcoming, with cheery yellow walls, hexagonal shelves filled with plush bees, and warm lighting that leans into its bee-themed concept. There are just two tables, making it more of a grab-and-go or quiet solo stop than a hangout hub.
The menu is kept simple and delightful. The star attraction is the Smiley Egglettes—a cute and quirky take on Hong Kong-style egg waffles. Instead of full-sized waffles, these are served as small, oval-shaped cakes stamped with smiley faces. Flavours include Plain, Chocolate, Peanut, Kaya, and Strawberry Jam, available individually or in bundles. Made fresh to order, the egglettes are crisp on the outside, soft and slightly chewy inside, and just sweet enough to pair perfectly with a hot or cold drink.
On the beverage front, Honey and Bean offers a tight selection of honey-inspired drinks and classic coffee options using the Obelisk blend from Two Degrees North, known for its notes of orange zest, roasted almond, and dark chocolate. Highlights include the Honey Latte and Iced Einspanner Honey, along with honey matcha variations and genmai lattes for non-coffee drinkers. Simple and sincere, Honey and Bean is a sweet little stop for a mellow pick-me-up and a cheerful snack—served, quite literally, with a smile.
