Mahmud’s Tandoor has found a permanent home at 20 Kandahar Street in Kampong Glam, bringing a bold and playful twist to traditional South Asian flavours. This Muslim-owned eatery began as a home-based business by founders Siraj Aziz and Nasyirah Parveen, who left their careers to serve tandoori wings and teh tarik using a cherished family recipe. Their unique spin on tandoori burgers quickly gained popularity, leading to a series of successful pop-ups and now, a vibrant three-storey outlet near Sultan Mosque.
The menu puts a creative spin on comfort food, featuring signature items like the OG Tandoori Burger ($12), made with baked tandoori chicken thigh, tangy mint yoghurt, and onions in a soft brioche bun. Other options include the Crispydoori Burger ($12) and the vegetarian-friendly Tempehdoori Burger ($11). The burgers balance spice and flavour, with the OG standing out for its smoky chicken and cooling yoghurt combination. A standout side is the Masala Fries — thick-cut and generously spiced — best enjoyed with a dip of harissa mayo. For something heartier, the Loaded Chicken Masala Fries offer a satisfying bite.
To cool things down, Mahmud’s Tandoor serves a colourful selection of slushies, including the Chai Peng Slush, Bandung Slush, and a rotating Slush of the Day (all $5). The Chai Peng Slush, in particular, offers a nostalgic hit of teh peng in a refreshing, icy blend. The restaurant’s cheerful ambiance — bright yellow walls, comfy benches, and a glowing rug feature — completes the experience. Mahmud’s Tandoor is a fresh take on South Asian cuisine, merging bold spices with a fast-casual format in a space that invites guests to linger.
