Another Korean restaurant has made its home in Telok Ayer, often dubbed Singapore’s very own K-Town. By evening, Gamtan transforms into a Korean barbecue joint, serving premium cuts of USDA Prime beef and Duroc pork. However, it’s the lunch menu that truly stands out, with sotbap — a traditional “pot rice” dish — taking center stage.
Diners are invited to scoop the rice and ingredients from the metal pot into a side bowl, mix in a sauce, and enjoy the flavorful combination. At the end of the meal, it’s customary to pour hot tea into the remaining rice to create nurungji, or scorched rice tea, offering a comforting finish.
Popular sotbap options include the steak and domi (seabream) sets, with the latter featuring tender scallop chunks on the side. For a vegetarian alternative, the mushroom sotbap is also available.
