Japanese beef katsu chain Gyukatsu Kyoto Katsugyu is set to open its first outlet in Singapore in September 2024. Known for its thick, lean cuts of marbled beef, the restaurant’s signature dish features beef coated in a unique koromo batter made from bread crumbs, flour, and egg wash. Deep-fried to achieve a perfect medium-rare finish, the beef cutlets offer a tender bite with a satisfying crunch — think pork tonkatsu, but with beef.
At the Singapore location, diners can choose from a range of cuts, including sirloin, chuck, tenderloin, tongue, and premium wagyu. For those who can’t decide, a half-and-half option of sirloin and tenderloin will also be available. If the Singapore outlet mirrors its Japanese counterparts, guests may even have the option to further grill their cuts on a hotplate to their preferred doneness — perfect for both Instagram and the taste buds.
To elevate the gyukatsu experience, a selection of flavorful accompaniments will be offered, such as Kyoto-style curry sauce, dashi soy sauce, and sansho pepper salt. Many may find that the most authentic way to enjoy this dish is with a perfectly cooked onsen egg cracked over the cutlet, which comes with every set. With these delicious options, Gyukatsu Kyoto Katsugyu is sure to make a memorable impression on Singapore’s dining scene.
