Japan’s number one patisserie Châteraisé’s beloved sweets are now accessible around the clock with the launch of its first unmanned store in Singapore.
It has recently opened in early March, the new 280 square feet space will be completely staff-less with a store that fans can walk into, shop and self-checkout their favourite pastries anytime of the day. The concept takes after the ones already in full swing in Japan, where only 6 customers allowed inside at a time. To make a purchase, visitors will need to download an app, register as a shopper and link a payment method whether that is by credit or debit card. Once done, they will need to scan a QR code generated on the app that works as their respective Cloud Chart.
Any item removed from any shelf will be detected and added to their respective Cloud Chart as an item added to cart. At the exit, payment will automatically be deducted from their selected payment mode. Should they change their mind about any purchases, simply return the item to shelf before checkout and it will also be automatically removed from the Cloud Chart.
Every movement will be closely monitored in store by CCTV for safety measures and while everything will be fully automated to allow self-checkout and payment, Chateraise’s staff will still make daily visits to ensure the dessert selection on sale showcase only the freshest.
Exclusive to this outpost will be a handful of new additions like Ice Cream Puffs Cookie Chou Ice available in two flavours of vanilla custard and Belgium chocolate as well as Double Fantasy Sweet Potato Puffs, otherwise also known as yakiimo in Japan.
Other well-loved items fans have come to know and love from Chateraise, each made with all natural and whole ingredients, continue to line the shelves.
Baked offerings come in cakes, cookies, madeleines, rolls, tea time rusks and more. Chilled desserts cover everything from fresh cream dorayaki, fluffy cream roll, eclairs, yakiimo, mochi cream cakes and even assorted chocolates. Ice cream serves milk bars, gelatos, monaka and ice pops in a plethora of flavours from the sweet and creamy to tart and tangy. Japanese specialties are of course not amiss with treats like warabi mochi, uji matcha, seasonal rice crackers, kasutera, dorayaki pancakes and more.
